Disc Injury — conservative care before surgery
A herniated or bulging disc is one of the most painful spinal conditions — but also one of the most responsive to chiropractic care. Most disc injuries can be effectively treated without surgery when addressed correctly and early.
Book an AssessmentWhat actually happens with a disc injury
Spinal discs are cartilage pads that sit between each vertebra, acting as shock absorbers and allowing movement. The outer wall of a disc can crack or weaken under pressure — allowing the soft inner material to bulge outward or herniate through the outer wall.
When that bulge or herniation presses on a nerve root, it creates the pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that most disc injury patients describe. The location of those symptoms tells us which disc and which nerve root is affected.
Chiropractic care for disc injuries uses gentle, specific techniques to reduce pressure on the affected disc, restore alignment, and allow the body to heal. Our INSiGHT scan shows the neurological impact of the injury — giving us a baseline to measure your recovery against.
Types of Disc Injury
Bulging Disc
The disc wall weakens and pushes outward beyond its normal boundary — often causing pressure on nearby nerves without full rupture.
Herniated Disc
The inner material breaks through the outer wall — creating a more acute, often severe nerve compression with sharp, radiating pain.
Degenerative Disc Disease
Gradual disc dehydration and height loss over time — reducing the space available for nerve roots and causing chronic pain and stiffness.
Most disc injuries respond well to chiropractic care. Surgery is rarely the first — or best — option.
Don't rush to surgery. Let's assess your disc injury first.
